Aafia completed her MS in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, along with CIRM Bridges - SCILL program from San Jose State University. For her research fellowship, she joined Majeti Lab at Stanford School of Medicine, where she worked on synthesizing antibody-conjugated lipid nanoparticles and characterizing targeted mRNA delivery to CD33+ human leukemic cells and immune cells.
After graduating, Aafia joined Payumo Lab at San Jose State as a Research Associate where she worked on cloning projects for targeted gene delivery in primary rat cardiomyocytes using AAV6 vectors to identify factors affecting cardiac proliferation in adults, causing loss of regeneration.
Outside the lab, Aafia loves to read fiction, walk in the city to explore bookstores, coffeeshops, museums and art galleries.
